Intel: Meltdown and Spectre chips fixes coming 2018
Together with fourth-quarter financial results, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich said that this year we will see hardware fixes against Spectre and Meltdown. The promise to get “immunized” against these CPU attacks, however, does not answer clearly to some questions.
Will we see revisions of current generations of Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake and Skylake, or will there be modifications at Cannon Lake, chips we expect this year? It is also unclear what the modification itself will be. Will there be higher code performance or branch prediction behavior modification?
“Security is a top priority for Intel, foundational to our products and it’s critical to the success of our data-centric strategy. Our near term focus is on delivering high quality mitigations to protect our customers infrastructure from these exploits. We’re working to incorporate silicon-based changed to future products that will directly address the Spectre and Meltdown threats in hardware. And those products will begin appearing later this year.” Said Brian Krzanich, CEO, Intel.
There is still no statement about Intel’s delay in moving completely to 10nm technology. Company representatives say they have produced 10nm chips since last year, but it is unclear what they are. It is also claimed that in the first half of the new year there will be a low volume of production that will increase in the second half of the year.
Again, however, what processors, in what quantities and when exactly – is not clear. Intel has had a fruitful last quarter, with an 8% increase in revenue to $17.1 billion. For the whole year, revenue amounted to $62.8 billion, up 9% from the previous one. This shows that AMD’s new products are not such a serious competition.
Intel claims it does not expect financial losses for Spectre and Meltdown, but their views may change because attacks still create risks and consumers are not particularly happy about the way the company deal with the problem.http://gizbrain.com/2018/01/28/intel-meltdown-spectre-chips-fixes-coming-2018/https://i0.wp.com/gizbrain.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/intel-ceo.jpg?fit=1024%2C653https://i0.wp.com/gizbrain.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/intel-ceo.jpg?fit=210%2C134INTELTECH NEWScpu,Intel, processorTogether with fourth-quarter financial results, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich said that this year we will see hardware fixes against Spectre and Meltdown.
