Samsung is working on a new technology that will allow not only the fingerprint scanner but also the smartphone camera to be embedded under the display.

The first manufacturer to fit the scanner into the screen was the Chinese Vivo, which was a bit embarrassing to giants like Samsung, Apple and others, investing hundreds of millions in development.

Samsung, however, obviously wants to take a lead, embedding not only the fingerprint scanner but also the camera itself. This is visible from a new patent brought by the South Korean giant in the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization).  In order to avoid adding a notch at the top of the phone’s display, Samsung chose to integrate the selfie camera and sensors in the display itself.

So in theory, a similar phone can have a nearly 100% screen-to-body ratio. Source: PhoneArenena image via LetsGoDigital
