Nintendo is a name that brings a smile to the face and a warm feeling of millions of gamers from all over the world and all ages. But the Japanese giant is also something else – the richest company in its homeland.

Japanese business publication Toyo Keizai has released its list of the 500 richest companies in Japan, and Nintendo has come out on top. The home of Mario and Zelda has an incredible 946 billion yen in cash and the amount is getting bigger thanks to the success of Switch in the retail chain.

Nintendo’s closest competitor to the game industry in this regard is Sony, which remains fourth in the same ranking. Of course, Sony has interests in many other areas, such as smartphones, consumer electronics, cinema and music, and that’s what makes Nintendo’s performance even more impressive.
