Recently, Apple has topped DxOMark as the best smartphone and although iPhone 8 Plus is still there, it now has to share the throne with Galaxy Note 8. In the last month, the famous benchmark for mobile photography has changed the way it gives its ratings, which actually benefits Galaxy Note 8.

In its new look, the review system pays special attention to features such as zoom and bokee effects, in which apparently Samsung’s flagship are performing better. Galaxy Note 8 is also the first phone in the new DxOMark ranking, which earns the perfect 100 points in the photo category.

“When all the tests are verified, the scores calculated, and the perceptual analyses discussed, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 comes out as an outstanding choice for the smartphone photography enthusiast, matching the top overall score of 94 points of the iPhone 8 Plus. Dual-cam setups offering a second telephoto zoom for portraits are a real step forward for high-end smartphone photography, and the implementation on the Note 8 is exceptional, making it the best smartphone for zoom shots we’ve tested.

Add to that extremely fast and accurate autofocus and a very competent flash unit, the Note 8 breaks new ground as the first smartphone to achieve 100 points for its photo sub-score. With new devices on the horizon from several of the key innovators for smartphone photography, will the Note 8 be able to hold onto its top spot?” DxOMark says in conclusion.

Particular praise is given to focus in low light and reproduction of the details. Zoom function is another distinctive feature – even at an 8-x zoom, the phone makes pretty good shots. In a lower light, experts recommend not to increase over x4.
