Day before the launch of the new iPhone X, Xiaomi presented his alternative and successor to the popular Mi Mix smartphone. The device shown in China arrives with extremely thin frames.

The standard version of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is made of metal and ceramics, while the Special Edition has a ceramic unibody design and special gold strips around the main camera and the fingerprint scanner.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 has a display with rounded corners, meaning the display itself is not curved, but the glass is on it. The phone has a 5.99-inch LCD display with 2160×1080 resolution.

The phone arrives in several variants. Xiaomi will sell its new device with 6 GB of RAM and choice between 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB of built-in memory. The “special” version will feature 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of built-in storage.

At the back we find a 12-megapixel sensor (Sony IMX386), accompanied by a 5-megapixel camera at the front of the phone, the front camera is positioned in the bottom right corner.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is powered by the 64-bit Octa-Core Snapdragon 835 chipset and the Adreno 540 graphics accelerator, the battery is 3400 mAh with support of Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology.

The operating system is Android Nougat, and the user interface – MIUI 9. The phone does not have a 3.5 mm headphone jack however usb-c to 3.5 mm connector is included.

The Mi Mix 2 has what you’d expect from a high-end flagship phone in terms of specs.

• 5.99-inch 2160×1080 LCD at 401ppi
• 151.8mm x 75.5mm x 7.7mm, 185g
• Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor
• 6GB of RAM (8GB on ceramic special edition)
• 64/128/256GB storage options (special edition is only 128GB)
• 3400mAh battery
• USB-C
• No headphone jack
• Bluetooth 5.0
• MIUI 9, based on Android Nougat
• 43 LTE bands

That last spec might be the most important if you’re considering this phone, as it means the phone should work properly on US LTE networks. Xiaomi itself still won’t be selling the phone in the US, however — it’s just saying that it’ll work if you find a way of getting one over there. It’ll also be available in most of the global markets where Xiaomi has a presence after an initial launch in China.

As for how much that’ll cost you, Xiaomi is pricing the Mi Mix 2 from 3299 yuan (about $500) for the model with 64GB of storage and 6GB of RAM. The 128GB version costs 3599 yuan ($550), meanwhile, and the 256GB model will be 3999 yuan ($610); the unibody ceramic special edition with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is priced at 4699 yuan ($720).
