SanDisk today presented a new microSD card with the world’s largest storage capacity – 400 GB! SanDisk’s 400 GB card can transfer files at speeds of up to 100 MB/sec and is classified as SDXC UHS-I card, App Performance Class A1.

The price seams reasonable for a cutting edge MicroSD Card. SanDisk shared that it will cost $250, which is only $50 more than it currently sells its 256GB microSD card. On a per-gigabyte basis, the 400GB version is 20 percent cheaper.

“Mobile devices have become the epicenter of our lives, and consumers are now accustomed to using their smartphones for anything from entertainment to business,” said Jeff Janukowicz, Sandisk Research Vice President. “We are collecting and sharing massive amounts of data on smartphones, drones, tablets, PCs, laptops and more.

“We anticipate that storage needs will only continue to grow as people continue to expect more sophisticated features on their devices and desire higher quality content.”

A 400GB microSD card can come in very handy. It might also offer a more affordable option when considering various models of a device like a smartphone or Surface Pro. There is a $500 difference between the Core i7 Surface Pro with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD and the same device with 1TB of SSD storage.

You could buy the 512GB model and a 400GB SanDisk microSD card and get nearly the same storage for $250 less. If you really want to spend the $2,699 you could buy yourself an extra 400GB SanDisk microSD card to use for backup or to swap out and extend your storage capacity even farther.

“We continue to push technology boundaries and transform the way consumers use their mobile devices,” said Sven Rathjen, Vice President of Western Digital. “By focusing on achieving new technology milestones, we enable consumers to keep up with their mobile-centric lifestyles with storage solutions they trust.”
