Nearly 200,000 32-bit applications will stop working after iOS 11, says a new report from Sensor Towers analysis. Apps will most likely remain available for download from the App Store app for users who still didn’t install iOS 11.

It is expected that after a certain period the company will remove them completely if they are not upgraded to work with 64-bit devices. According to Sensor Towers, the majority of 32-bit applications consist of games. Their number is 38,619, the rest fall into categories such as education, entertainment and lifestyle.

“Based on App Intelligence data, our analysis of currently active apps that have ranked in either the top free, paid, or grossing charts at some point since their release shows that this number stands at approximately 187,000 or about 8 percent of the roughly 2.4 million apps on the App Store worldwide.” Says Sensor Towers.

It’s important to note that the expectation that Apple will remove 32-bit app support in iOS 11 is based on beta software, so we won’t truly know if these apps will be relegated to the history books until the latest version of iOS launches this fall.

Even then, it’s possible that the developers of these apps, who are keeping them active on the store, could decide to update them before (or even after) that point.

Apple’s iOS 11 doesn’t support 32-bit Applications

You can check if you have 32-bit applications installed by opening your iPhone settings and then going to General-About-Applications. Apple has begun to alert developers to stopping support for 32-bit programs with iOS 11 with beta version of iOS 10 in January. Source: Sensor Towers
