Google has launched a new, more limited VR format that it hopes will become accessible as regular YouTube videos. It is called the VR180, and is collaboration between YouTube and Google’s Daydream VR. The VR180 will be launched with a new line of cameras from Yi, Lenovo and LG as well as other partners that meet the VR180 certification standards.

“VR180 brings immersiveness to all kinds of videos, from vlogs to makeup tutorials, to music videos and everyday moments you just want to share.”

As the name implies, the VR180 videos will bring you in a 3D virtual world where you can look around almost anywhere. Of course, a 2D version will also be available. For the 3D version you will need the YouTube application with Google Cardboard, Daydream or PlayStation VR glasses.

Content creators will be able to capture videos in the new format by purchasing and using one of the new VR180 certified cameras. The first VR180 products are expected to appear this winter.

YouTube video creators soon will be able to edit their videos with Adobe Premiere Pro and other standard software.
