Microsoft’s new Surface Laptop is the right balance of power, portability and design, but it has a significant weakness – it’s almost impossible to be repaired, at least according to iFixit.

Since the laptop has no screws, the technicians have been forced to try to open the device to get its internal components, removing the alcantra cover around the keyboard and the trackpad.

And since Microsoft has made sure that this layer is extremely tight, it was practically impossible to remove it without tearing or damaging the buttons from the excessive heat with a hot air gun.

Once opened, it is clear that the components are also difficult to remove. The battery is tightly bonded to the housing, making it virtually impossible to replace without damaging anything.

Microsoft Surface Computers have never received very high score when it comes to repairs – the Surface Book, which has been on the market for a few years, has earned only 1 out of 10 rating points for repairability.

But this new computer is even worse: 0 out of 10. iFixit reports that the Microsoft laptop is not repairable and its components like CPU, RAM or SSD can not be changed because they are soldered to the motherboard. Source: iFixit
