The popular startup offering business communication, Slack Technologies Inc. Has received offers for acquisitions from several technology companies, including Amazon.com Inc., Bloomberg reported, citing familiar sources.

According to them, the deal could reach $9 billion. However, it is unclear how far the negotiations between the two companies have  reach. Amazon and Slack have refused to comment on the media’s claims. At that price, buying Slack would be Amazon’s biggest acquisition — Slackquisition if you will — in its history.

In 2016, Slack raised $200 million in funding to $3.8 billion. In an interview with Bloomberg TV last month, Slack’s CEO and founder, Stewart Butterfield, said the company would not become a public company in the coming years because of uncertain business growth. Slack has currently about 5 million active users.

“Sure, Slack’s 5 million users are paltry compared with Facebook’s 1.2 billion Messenger users. But you have to start somewhere. As messaging continues to eat up more of mobile users’ time and attention, Slack could become Amazon’s ticket into owning a popular chatting platform.” Source: Bloomberg
