Apple presented HomePod a home assistant which cost $349
Apple officially introduced its smart speaker called HomePod. The new home assistant features a set of seven speakers, a 4-inch high‑excursion woofer and is equipped with an Apple A8 chip.
Connecting to iPhone is just like AirPods – the two devices will automatically detect and connected. HomePod is compatible with iPhone 5S and newer models.
You can use more than one HomePods in one room to enhance the sound or choose other compatible AirPlay 2 speakers. HomePod also has integrated sensor buttons, and when is activated, the Siri sound wave appears on top.
“HomePod is smart enough to sense where in the room it’s playing. Or that you added another HomePod. Or that you’re telling it what you want to hear — even from across the room. Then it responds to all this information automatically, so all you have to do is listen.”
The smart speaker is designed to work as a home assistant, so you can use Siri for things like news, weather, traffic, sports, reminders, timers, and more. You can send iMessages through HomePod or control HomeKit devices.
Apple emphasizes that the security of HomePod is high and although the device will always listen for the “Hey, Siri” command, the information will not be sent to Apple’s servers – and when send data then is encrypted and uses an anonymous Siri identifier.
HomePod will cost US $349 when it is released in December in the US, UK and Australia. This is intriguing because Apple will be into direct competition with Amazon Echo and Google Home.
The difference is that both systems are already available and come at a much more affordable price – less than $190. HomePod, however, has the Apple ecosystem behind it, which is enough to shape a serious battle in the smart speaker market.
