Just before the start of the official sales of Galaxy S8, Samsung announced that it will stop users to reprogramming the Bixby button to work with other applications.

According to an earlier post on XDA Developers software professionals are able to set the button to activate the Bixby to work with other services such as Google Assistant. Now Samsung releases a new update that eliminate this possibility completely.

Bixby button of Galaxy S8 can be set to open other applications

XDA Developers first reported a Galaxy S8 firmware update blocking the ability to remap the button to perform a variety of tasks. It’s not clear if Samsung will ever support remapping of the button. A representative for Samsung tweeted: “Can’t say it will never happen, but we won’t officially support.”

Now we can wait and see how long it will take for engineers to come up with another solution and again to unlock the button for more functionality.
