MediaTek announced its chipset Helio X30 last summer and the first devices with him will come at the second quarter of 2017. Now we learn that, the Chinese company is planning a major leap forward with their next SoC.

The new chipset will be made in 7nm process and has 12 cores, according to latest data by MediaTek sources. Apparently the production is entrusted to TSMC, but the ultimate goal is to create a more efficient chipset.

Unlike Helio X30, which has 10 cores, there will be 2 more. Change will have in the process – from 10nm production will move to 7nm. Mass production of the chipset should start in early 2018, which means that in a year we will see the first smartphones with 12 cores.
