Microsoft augmented reality system HoloLens is currently for sale, but the price of $3000 can hardly be described as affordable. Running Windows 10 gadget now has two versions, respectively Developer Edition and Commercial Suite, which are available through the official store from Microsoft. The company claims that they have sold thousands of copies and this is a sufficient result.

The appearance of the consumer version, however, is optional and Microsoft plans to release her, however this will not happen either this or next year. Rather than release so called Hololens 2.0 version, which will be an intermediate option Microsoft will proceed straight to work on the version 3.0, which will represent completely new upgrade, not just polished version of something that already exists.

Microsoft expects this version of HoloLens to be available in the second half of 2019 the software giant predicts that with good luck will be able to sell about 80 million headsets at the end of 2020. This is certainly an ambitious goal, and the company will really need to launch an interesting product to make it possible.

The current price makes HoloLens inaccessible for the average consumer, but obviously more specialized interest in this technology is enough for the company.

“We’re not trying to sell hundreds of thousands or millions,” says Roger Walkden Senior Director and Commercial Lead of HoloLens. “It is an expensive product that has no mass character.”
