The latest Apple patent is related to the next iPhone, which probably will have a virtual Home button. The patent published today by the USPTO in the US is about “interactive display with infrared diodes.”

This will allow Apple devices to read fingerprints through the screen directly, rather than relying on a special reader built into the Home button. In fact, behind the technology stands the company LuxVue, which Apple acquired in 2014.

As reported earlier, Apple may be looking to “get rid” of the Touch ID sensor, and switching to a modern security system. Of course, another reason is to increase the space and to use it for a larger screen into the existing iPhone and iPad models.
