It’s no secret that Apple has a fairly high level of secrecy when it comes to new products and technologies on which work. This week the CEO of the company, Tim Cook addressed to The Independent, saying that AR (augmented reality) is a major, revolutionary technology similar to smartphones.

“I regard it as a big idea, like the smartphone. The smartphone is for everyone, we don’t have to think the iPhone is about a certain demographic, or country or vertical market: it’s for everyone. I think AR is that big, it’s huge. I get excited because of the things that could be done that could improve a lot of lives. And be entertaining.”

It is still not clear on what kind of hardware or software the company is working, but certainly future products will have some kind of integration with AR. The company has patents for headsets with augmented reality and other types of devices, but what we will see in the end as the final product is not yet clear. One thing is certain, if Cook started more often to talk about AR, we can be sure that this year will see something interesting with this features.
