Snapchat present glasses with built-in camera, called Spectacles
Earlier this year appeared information that Snapchat is looking for hardware experts to develop a wearable device type glasses with augmented reality. It turned out that this information is real and today we can show you the first Snapchat glasses, called simply “Spectacles (glasses).” They will hit the market this fall with the price off $129.99, according to the WSJ.
The glasses come in only one size, but will be available in three colors – black, blue-green and coral. To start the video recording will need to tap a button located on the side of the glasses. The video will lasts only 10 seconds and each new tap recors another clip. This video will be synchronized wirelessly with your phone to share it ta the moment.
Interestingly, the camera uses 115-degree lens (which is wider than in ordinary smartphones or cameras). It is still not clear how this video will be shown in the application as the viewing field will be pretty big.
Snapchat might cut the video in portrait format or updated its application to enable this videos. CEO of Snapchat, Evan Spiegel, told the WSJ, that Spectacles will have a “slow approach” the company will not rely on significant immediate revenue.
“We’re going to take a slow approach to rolling them out,” says Spiegel. “It’s about us figuring out if it fits into people’s lives and seeing how they like it.”
Why make this product, with its attendant risks, and why now? “Because it’s fun,” he says with another laugh. This looseness, this sense of confident experimentation, seems to encapsulate one aspect of Snapchat’s startling success.
