Facebook-Instant-Articles

Instant Articles on Facebook are starting to spears more often, which is good for quick access to content pages. So far, a small number of publishers are able to handle news articles quickly for mobile devices, but from April 12 technology would be open to everyone – including small bloggers.

“It has always been our vision to create something that works for publishers all over the world,” Said Facebook product manager Josh Roberts last month.

In an attempt to involve new communities Facebook has partnered with Automattic, the company behind the popular publishing platform WordPress, to facilitate authors from around the world to make them pages up to 10 times faster.

The two companies released a new plugin that comes with several built-in tools to prepare for the start blogging. The tools enable bloggers to select the video to run automatically or zoom images to it by double tapping. The plugin is open-source and customizable. Its documentation is available here on Github.

This is a significant step for Facebook, because as WordPress now powers more than a quarter of the sites in the Internet. The company says that all standard templates will supports the plugin, but warned that if the owners of sites have customized their templates, they may need to make additional edits to get optimal results.

In a blog post, Facebook noted how the plugin formatted this Foreign Policy story for Instant Articles:

For example, the plugin recognizes the image found in this Foreign Policy article and specifies the correct markup so the photo renders properly in the Instant Article. The photo expands to fill the screen when tapped and allows exploration by simply tilting the phone.
