US court ruled that Apple must pay 625.6 million US dollars of patent company for violation of a number of intellectual property rights. The jury ruled unanimously in favor of the company VirnetX, because Apple has infringed the patent communications protocol for FaceTime, VPN on Demand and iMessage.

This also applies to devices that use these services. This is the second time VirnetX sue Apple for the use of these specific patents after the company earlier won a lawsuit for $368 million from Apple in 2012.

Both cases were handled in Federal District Court in Texas, which is notoriously friendly to patent owners. VirnetX has used the courts in this area to “attack” and other large technology companies for violations of its wide range of patents.

In 2010 the company earned $200 million from Microsoft to settle out of court, and again in 2014 for $23 million in a case involving Skype.
