toshiba

The effects of the accounting scandal of Toshiba are quite serious. The Japanese company announced losses of 4.5 billion dollars. It will cut 6,800 jobs, or about 30 percent of the total workforce. Generally the company employees are nearly 200,000.

Although some of the losses can be overcome, Toshiba took a serious blow after admitting they lied about profits for almost six years. As part of the restructuring Toshiba will sell its factories for televisions and laundry of its Hong Kong partner Skyworth.

The company recently sold its division of camera sensors to Sony and stopped producing TVs for the US market. To further streamline operations the company wants to combine its PC business with Fujitsu, Vaio and Sharp.

In addition, the former executives could face criminal charges. Toshiba still has not reported and incidental costs for its nuclear activity caused by the tsunami in 2011.
