NASA published a unique picture of Earth taken from about 385,000 km. This amazing photo of the Earth on the lunar horizon is obtained by American scientists using the spacecraft “Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter”, said a NASA.

“The image is staggering,” – said Noah Petro, supervisor of the project “Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter” at NASA. Image shows our planet rising above the lunar horizon over the large crater Compton.

The spacecraft “Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter” was launched on June 18, 2009, the probe is directly related to NASA’s plans to return to the Moon several decades after the Apollo program.

LRO mission is to explore the conditions that would face the future long-term expeditions of people to the moon. The unit mapped in detail the lunar surface and scan for safe areas for landing spacecraft.

LRO exploring more natural resources of the moon as also measured levels of radiation at the surface of the Moon – among the main tasks of the LRO is finding a suitable area to build a base to colonize the Moon.
