windows10-cortana

Microsoft officially launched Cortana for iOS and Android this week, but the company plans much more for its virtual voice assistant. Cortana became officially available on Windows 10 earlier this year, and now Microsoft plans a major update codenamed Redstone operating system. The new version will made Cortana much more powerful.

Sources familiar with the plans of Microsoft, said that the company experimented with “floating” Cortana in Windows 10. This “floating” mechanism will allow Cortana to appear on documents contextually, providing information and assistance.

This will be a powerful search tool than annoying cartoon character Clippy, known from earlier versions of Windows.

If Microsoft made Cortana “floating” throughout the operating system, it will give new strength to the voice assistant that can control many more functions into Windows. So a future interaction between man and computer (with Windows 10) will become much more natural – through touch (hardware peripherals) and voice.

Microsoft is also considering further integration of its Office 365 services directly to Cortana. For the business this could mean that Windows 10 will serve as a hub for projects that Cortana will understand of what documents and information are handled.

Of course Cortana will not be the only area with an enhanced focus in Redstone update from Microsoft. Microsoft also wants center for notifications in Windows 10 (known as a center for actions or Action Center) to become much more functional than it is today.

For Windows Phone, Microsoft is currently developing on-tap service Cortana, similar to the function Now on Tap in Google. So Cortana will allow quick access to additional information or queries. Microsoft has already tested this feature with photos on Bing app for Android.

Microsoft’s ambitions for Cortana include the idea of resuming operations and data across multiple devices and platforms. Microsoft will present previews of some of their Windows 10 updates, including expanded support of its Edge browser. Work on Redstone is in early stages and different functions are being planned, so expect to hear more about the future of Windows 10 early next year.
