iFixit Teardown Apple Smart Battery Case

Earlier this week Apple unveiled its first Smart Battery Case for iPhone 6 and 6S of course iFixit did what they do best, to see what’s inside and in the controversial hump.

To access the battery of the case must first be peeled off the soft lining on the inside. Then remove the three special Apple screw, to remove the metal plate and lead to the battery itself. The battery has a capacity of 1877 mAh at 3,8 V. iFixit have tried to dismantle and components of the Lightning connector.

Unfortunately, “The Smart” case of Apple is not designed easily to can replace the battery without undermining the internal coating. From iFixit comment:

“For such a Smart battery, it looks like most of the brains probably live in software on your iPhone. We only find some rudimentary ICs inside: NXP NX20P3 load switch, also found in Lightning to USB cables, NXP 1608A1 charging IC.”
