Faceshift

Apple acquired the company behind the technology motion capture used in the final film in the series Star Wars. The cost of the transaction is not known, the company representatives did not give more details on the acquisition of Faceshift, commenting that “from time to time Apple buys smaller technology companies and did not comment on the purpose or plans.”

It is not clear why Apple needs a company that specializes in the making of human expressions and their transfer onto animated characters. So far Faceshift products were aimed primarily at film and gaming industry. Apple will probably use similar technology to improve their ability to recognize faces and various developments in the field of virtual reality.
