As you know, Apple has signed deals to supply various hardware components for its phones from other companies. On the one hand we have LG, supplying displays for the new Apple Watch, and most likely will be a supplier for the next. Samsung and TSMC did make last A9 chip for iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. It turns out that Samsung are willing to intervene more heavily in the supply of displays, which is not really a surprise.

So far for the iPhone are use LCD displays, which despite its advantages, remain a bit behind the OLED. At least, if you put the two together you will see that OLED offers significantly more saturated colors, much better transmission of black and also more energy efficient. Whether all this will be implemented in the next iPhone 7 we will found out soon, but after the “S” series is one that brings most hardware changes we might wait until 2017.
