Apple-Xcodeghost-apps

Earlier this week it became clear that for the first time in history on the App Store have been found applications with malware software known as XcodeGhost. Affected applications are at least 39, and now Apple announced by name 25 of them (which you can see the list below). Most security researchers now agree that the total number of infected applications is four digits, and many of them are still present in the Chinese App Store.

Apple says it is working with developers to clean infected versions of the applications and return them back to the App Store. Eight of the most popular applications have not yet been recovered, including Angry Birds 2 and China Unicom’s Customer Service.

The company also confirmed that it has blocked new applications infected by XcodeGhost, but not yet revealed its plans to remove remaining affected applications that are still available for download.

One important clarification: Infected applications are only in the Chinese App Store.

Apple is now taking steps to make a real version of Xcode available for download on Chinese servers, having found that developers were tricked into downloading a fake version that downloads more quickly locally.

Phil Schiller said that the infected applications do not allow access to users’ data, and this has been confirmed by independent researchers.
