Taiwanese manufacturer TSMC will be the exclusive partner of Apple in a production of the chips A10, designed for the next generation iPhone, which will end the partnership for the processors with Samsung, said China Times. Production of the new processor will be launched in March next year on 16 nm technology. The chip will use InFO (integrated fan out) architecture, which will reduce costs and improve productivity.

This will also allow Apple to move to a system-in-package arrangement similar to S1, used in Apple Watch. These improvements will make the A10 faster and will allow significant shrinkage of the chip to make room for a bigger battery for example. The current generation of processors Apple A9, used in the new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, are manufactured by Samsung and TSMC. In recent years, Samsung has been chip-maker of the Series A with its factory in Austin, Texas, but the dream of Apple to break away from its dependence on the Korean company may finally come true.

It is also expected Taiwan’s TSMC to continue production of chips A8, which are used in Apple TV and iPad Mini 4. The next generation iPhone’s – iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus – will go on sale in about a year. It is expected that different versions of the A10 to be used in future iPad tablets.
