IFA 2015: Sony presented Xperia Z5, the world’s first smartphone with a 4K display and HDR TVs
The first day at IFA 2015 is coming to an end, but the interesting news continue. Interesting, but this year only in the opening day was destined to be held five major conferences that we saw and will see new smartphones, laptops and other smart accessories. In the following lines you will read more about the press conference of Sony, and later today we expect more exciting gadgets. Long, long day…
In fact, Sony was one of the company that we expected significant number of new devices. The company, of course, did not disappoint, although we already knew almost everything about the new series of smartphones Xperia Z5. It turned out that the rumors were completely accurate and Japanese manufacturer showed three smartphones, all of which have something to attract users on its side. But it all started with…
On the stage appeared The CEO of Sony Kazuo Hirai, who devoted the first part of the conference of the company itself. He emphasized that over the last three years Sony going through internal changes and reorganizations but it is now at an end and the manufacturer will begin again to grow and develop. Hirai’s words are very important, as last year the company did not achieve stable financial results, which even led to speculation about the sale of the mobile division. “Although our B2B business, which includes sensors and is stable, I believe there is great potential in innovation in consumer products,” he added.
Hirai explained that in the TV segment, the company has improved operational efficiency, which has led to positive changes. “Sales volume and our market share has almost doubled in Europe. Our new TVs were very well received because of their exquisite design. But the series X90C is not just a thin TV, it also raises the limits on picture quality,”added Hirai. So gradually the topic shifted to developments in these products.
Sony announced that expand the range of 4K Ultra HD TVs that support the new HDR signal. To previous series announced X94C and X93C, Sony HDR adds functionality series X91C, X90C, X85C and S85C through Internet updates. It is important that the company works with service providers for video streaming as Amazon Video, to provide users with movies and TV shows in HDR (high dynamic contrast). The technology, which has long been known to us especially in the smartphone cameras, captures a greater dynamic range of brightness, contributing to a better contrast of the screen.
This increased contrast reveals subtle nuances in an image of detailed dark tones and shadows to the brightest white tones and colors. The exclusive technology X-tended Dynamic Range of Sony’s series X94C and X93C improved visual experience with deeper dark tones and brighter whites. X-tended Dynamic Range in Sony X93C provides up to two times greater range of brightness, while the X-tended Dynamic Range PRO in Sony X94C – 3 times.
Interesting representative of the series BRAVIA, which we received more information from Sony, is X91C. Although it has a strong potential, perhaps the first thing that impresses is, 75-inch diagonal display Triluminos screen at just 15 mm thin. The design is completed by aluminum legs, but can also be hung on the wall, and the frame is almost unnoticeable.
The good news continues beyond the visible with the powerful 4K processor X1, who cares picture to be high, even when upscaling to UHD resolution. X91C operating system is Android TV, which means a huge range of applications and convenient feature Google Cast. Through it it can easily connect your mobile device to the TV, to exchange content quickly. Bravia X91C is compatible with HEVC, VP9 and HDMI for 50p / 60r. This means that you can fully enjoy your favorite content, including the growing number of services for the streaming of 4K video.
After the television come the time that the majority of visitors and fans expected – new smartphone from Sony. “Of course, as you know, more and more people take pictures with their smartphones and precisely We carried them some of the most innovative features of the Sony cameras in our smartphones,” said Hirai.
Sony Xperia Z5 will try to attract customers with 23-megapixel main camera, lightning autofocus, 5.2-inch FHD display and long battery life. We are sure that you happened to want to shoot quickly some interesting situation to press the “trigger” to wait a little while focusing phone and finally get blurry image. Xperia Z5 will try to eliminate it all – from Sony claimed that AF in their new flagship are necessary only 0.03 seconds to make the picture perfect. This short period of time sounds impressive, but we will have more information when making personal tests of the device.
When we talk about pictures with smartphones, there is another parameter that often results are below expectations – pictures under low light output. Hirai said that they greatly improve the performance of Xperia Z5 in these situations, and the same goes for the use of the zoom function. This is possible thanks to the large 23MP sensor and technology Clear Image Zoom from the Japanese manufacturer.
During the presentation of the new phone, Hirai emphasized and battery as promised two days with normal working life and fast charging – 10 minutes will be sufficient for more than 5 hours consumption.
Although we started from the camera, we should say a few words about the design. Xperia Z5 does not deviate from the vision of its predecessors and keeps clean and pleasing appearance, built from a combination of metal and glass (frosted rear panel). One of the new elements is the scanner for fingerprint, which is included in the button on and off. This is perhaps the smallest such sensor that we’ve seen, so expect a serious interest the moment that will test its quality.
Xperia Z5 still retains something to do with its predecessors – water and dust proofness. Inside in the new flagship work eight-core Snapdragon processor 810, accompanied by 3GB RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. The operating system is Android Lollipop. It seems that the new flagship from Sony will offer one of the best cameras on the market and whether it will come to the forefront, we will find when we carry out first tests.
Along with the Xperia Z5 Hirai introduced two other smartphones – compact and higher variation of the flagship. Xperia Z5 Compcat has a 4.6-inch display with HD resolution. There is also available a fingerprint sensor and the same great camera. The phone is waterproof and dustproof, powered by Snapdragon processor 810 and is equipped with the operating system Andorid Lollipop. Fast-charging battery has a capacity of 2700mAh and should again provide almost two days at normal use. The difference is the RAM, which here is 2 GB.
Xperia Z5 Premium is the first smartphone with a 4K display. Yes, if you’re wondering whether you have understood correctly, repeat – 4K display with a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels, which, given the size of 5.5 inches makes the 806 dots per inch. Impressive! Until now, many models can shoot video with this resolution, but Xperia Z5 Premium is the only one who can offer a display that can be viewed in their full splendor.
As such content is decently large size, premium version of the flagship supports microSD cards of up to 200 GB. The battery is 3600mAh and again by Sony commented that should last for about two days. The remaining hardware features overlap with the base model of the series Xperia Z5, and all smartphones have a function PlayStation Remote Play. It allows you to play games on your phone directly to the PS4.
Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact will be marketed globally by October 2015, and Xperia Z5 Premium – from November 2015 Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium will be available in two versions – with 1 and 2 SIM cards.
At the end of the conference Hirai took time for the new audio products of the company. They are part of a new line called “h.ear”, but also gadgets from the line Walkman.
