xiaomi-Redmi2-Prime

Today Xiaomi introduced its newest smartphone – Redmi 2 Prime. Interestingly, the model was first produced in India. Expectations were that the successor to the budgetary Redmi 2 would have more RAM. Prime version retains the same 4.7-inch IGZO display, made by Sharp, Snapdragon 410, processor and 8MP main camera, but features 2GB RAM and 16 GB of internal memory.

Although Redmi Prime 2 is presented as produced in India, actually it is assembled in Sri City, but the parts come from China. Hugo Barra from Xiaomi said that India will soon start to produce package and charger for the phone.

“This is like the typical chicken and egg story. Unless there is any smartphone manufacturing happening in the country, you cannot expect to get components locally.” adds Barra. Currently the company will try to meet the demand in India and not to think about export Redmi 2 Prime. If you are wondering what is the price, it remains at a very decent level – 109 dollars, which is only $15 more than the standard model.
