Nest-Protect-and-Nest-Cam

At an event last night in San Francisco company Nest Labs (owned by Google) announced its second-generation detector for smoke, also called Nest Protect and Nest Cam. The new version of Nest Cam, is revamped version of Dropcam.

Nest Protect
The new detector has a “split sensor array” for the detection of smoke, a step beyond the single photoelectric sensor in the original package. From Nest say that the ability to detect smoke with a sensor that can “read” the shorter wavelengths is important because modern building materials can burn much faster, so the sensor must be able to detects smoke faster. It also allows you to mute the alarm Smoke to your phone. This makes sense because the function wave to silence the first generation caused problems.

The hardware of Nest Protect 2 has been completely redesigned to be 11 percent less, as they say of Nest Labs. There is also a new “smoke chamber,” which prevents dust and insects. The second-generation Nest Protect cost $99 and is available for pre-order from today, and deliveries will begin at the end of the month.

In addition to the new hardware Nest also announced software updates for its existing products to make them work better together.

There’s also a new feature of “Safety temperature” – if your home gets too hot or cold, you will receive a notification that the heating or cooling system operating outside the normal range. From Nest gave the example of a house that is too hot for your pet or cold enough that the pipes will burst.

Nest Cam
New Nest Cam design is more flexible and has a new mounting options, including standard tripod and magnet – so you can stick it directly on your refrigerator. In terms of video quality the new Nest Cam will offer Full HD resolution (1920×1080), and eight IR LEDs so that it can work well on light and dark.

In addition there is a zoom function that offering 8x digital zoom function Clear Zoom, so you can zoom from your phone and get a cleaner version of what you’re watching. Of course, Nest Cam has a speaker and microphone.

Nest Cam cost $199, with sales start today in the US. In July, the camera will appear in Britain, where it will cost 159 pounds.
