Comparison between Apple Proactive Assistant, Google Now and Cortana
One of the most interesting features that will come with iOS 9, is called Proactive Assistant. With it, Apple gives new strength to Siri, entering into direct competition with Google Now and Cortana of Microsoft. Spotlight and Siri in iOS 9 will work together more closely than ever, and Apple says that they are the backbone of intelligence in the new iOS 9.
Some of these features include intelligent recommendations for applications based on the frequency of use and time from the day, how long will it take to get to the next location based on traffic and other projections.
Apple says that their new system is smart enough to “give you helpful suggestions before you even ask.” New features in iOS 9 are already well known on Android and Windows users, but Apple claims that their assistant is slightly different: they say that every intelligent processing in iOS 9 happens locally on the device, while Google and Microsoft rely on their servers, cloud based, where processing the data.
Based on what Apple has so far, from The Verge have prepared a table with the functions of the three intelligent assistants of Apple, Google and Microsoft. Each system has its strengths – Google has plenty of support for third-party applications, Microsoft Cortana has a fun and fascinating personality, and Apple has the ability to work locally on your device. But basically they all aim to make your phone more useful. For Apple this is a significant step forward and a few months we will be able to say whether its strategy is better than the competition.
