Apple will be deprived of the opportunity to sell its Smart Watch timepiece in the most “watchmaking” country in the world – Switzerland, at least until the end of the year
The reason is patent from 1985, owned by local company Leonard Timepieces, which gives it rights to the use of an image of apple labeled “APPLE” for watches and watch parts.

Sales of Apple Watch will start on 24 April. Apple will release the watch simultaneously in nine countries around the world, but among them there is no Switzerland – home of watches.

Apple has received notice from the Swiss Institute for Intellectual Property, that on the territory is a patent act of watch company Leonard Timepieces. The term of the patent expires on December 5 this year, after which the Swiss market will be open for Apple Watch.

Temporary ban will benefit Swiss watches. Own smart watches already have companies Swatch, TAG Heuer, Mondaine, Frederique Constant and Alpina.

However it is possible Apple to violate patent laws and later to pay for it. In 2007, under the leadership of Steve Jobs, the company introduced in the US market its first smartphone – iPhone, despite the patent of Cisco, the trademark iPhone. Later, both sides have settled the issue out of court.
